I dropped my phone to continue relaxing but a call came in. It was Bolanle. "Hello Segun, have you heard?" "That what?" I replied, "PSY102 exam result is out and guess the highest score and who in our class?" I was still trying to put the information together when she screamed "it's you my friend" into my ears through the phone.
"Hello everybody", Mr Babawale said as he entered our class for the first time last semester. "Hello sir", the class responded. Let's start by introducing ourselves, everyone in class did as they were told and he ended the introduction with "welcome to a new semester, this is PSY102 and I'd be your lecturer". We were still racking our brains as to what Psy102 is when he wrote "Introduction To Psychology" on the board, and said "pick up your note and pen", then he started to give us notes.
Psychology is the scientific study of the mind and behavior. It seeks to understand and explain how individuals think, feel, and behave in various situations. Psychologists use scientific methods and empirical research to investigate a wide range of topics, from basic mental processes to complex human interactions. He started, key areas of psychology:
1. Biological Psychology: This is a branch of psychology that focuses on the relationship between the brain, nervous system, and behavior. It examines how biological factors influence psychological processes and behavior.
2. Cognitive Psychology: Cognitive psychology explores mental processes such as perception, attention, memory, language, problem-solving, and decision-making. It investigates how people acquire, process, and store information.
3. Developmental Psychology: Developmental psychology studies the changes that occur throughout a person's lifespan. It examines physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development from infancy to old age.
4. Social Psychology: Social psychology investigates how individuals' thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are influenced by social interactions. It explores topics such as conformity, obedience, prejudice, attitudes, and group dynamics.
5. Personality Psychology: Personality psychology focuses on individual differences in patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving. It seeks to understand and describe personality traits, motivations, and characteristics that make individuals unique.
"I'll stop here today and continue in our next class, see you next week". He was about to leave the class but stopped abruptly, lest I forget, "I heard someone said his name is Lanre, who is it?" I stood up from my seat and said "that's my name sir", "oh, okay, you'd be the course rep for this course". I was happy because I had always wanted to work closely with lecturers and this came on a platter of gold. So I was really happy.
We left class together but Bolanle said she wanted to go see Gloria, her only female friend that didn't attend class that day asking us to go with her. Immediately, I told her that I was tired and I needed to go home and freshen up, eat then sleep. "Emi gan fe lo ri Adeoluwa ki n to ma lo s'ile (I also want to go and see Adeoluwa before I go home)". At that junction, we said our goodbyes, departed and went about the rest of our day as we wanted.
At home, I did as I told my friend and I slept for a long time that day. In my sleep, I had a dream............
